This photo was taken on our fist day in Wyoming. We had unpacked at the hotel and decided to drive around to get the lay of the land. I could see something off in the distance and was certain it was some type of ungulate, but I couldn’t make out exactly what it was. The animal happened to be in close distance to a parking lot, so we drove down a curvy road and parked the car.
As we walked down the established trail, we could see it was a moose. Not only was there a moose but also her calf! (I was TOO excited about this, haha.)
The mom was searching for aquatic plants to eat while her calf stood a good deal behind her. We kept a safe distance, so we wouldn’t scare her off or interrupt her meal. She seemed entirely unbothered by the people walking the trail and continued to dunk her head in the water in search of a meal. For me, this moment was a perfect introduction to the gorgeous Teton Mountains and the incredible wildlife around Wyoming.
