On our most recent trip to California, we explored Cleveland National Forest in the San Diego area. After enjoying the beautiful views of mountains and desert, we decided to set out on a mission for apple pie. Why apple pie you ask?
Well, I heard about the delicious apple treats in the small town of Julian, which is located right around Cleveland National Forest. Indulging in some apple sweets seemed like a necessary part of exploring this part of the state. So, after checking out Cleveland National desert, er I mean ‘forest’, we headed for Julian.
The town of Julian is so picturesque and perfect – it’s like an oasis of sweet apple treats in the middle of the hot desert. Nestled in the mountains and home to all types of fun shops and eateries, this charming city is really a great place to explore.
Of all the different establishments offering apple desserts in the area, we ended up at Julian Pie Company. We ordered a slice of their naturally-sweetened apple pie with ice cream as well as an apple cider doughnut. We sat on their cute outdoor patio and marveled at the deliciousness of these desserts.
The pie was so, so good. Really, it was incredibly tasty. For me though, it was the cider doughnut that stole the show. I quickly became obsessed. In fact, after returning home, I had a dozen of them delivered to my house in Florida. (Yes, certain times of the year they offer shipping services). I started this tradition for the fall season and look forward to eating these delicious apple treats every autumn.
There’s nothing like enjoying the start of fall with satisfying apple cider doughnuts. Did I mention the outside of the doughnuts are dusted in a cinnamon and sugar mix? Need I say more?
Go ahead and order yourself a dozen. You can thank me later.
