On any given day, at any random time, my answer to who my favorite band is will always be Sigur Rós. I began listening to them more than a decade ago and loved them from the very beginning. However, seeing them perform in 2013 at a venue in Tampa, FL was the moment I fell IN LOVE with them. To date, it was the best show I’ve ever been to, which is saying a lot because I ‘ve been to countless concerts throughout the last two decades.
When I saw a Facebook teaser that Sigur Rós was going to announce North American dates for 2016, I felt an urgency to get tickets. I realized that it was unlikely they would be coming to Tampa, so I instantly committed to the idea of traveling to a performance.
The pre-sale day arrived, and I chose to get VIP tickets for their Philadelphia performance at The Academy of Music. I’ve been to Philly a number of times and had a lot going on in Tampa, so I decided to only do an overnight trip for the show. We flew in on a Saturday afternoon and were back in Tampa around noon on Sunday. It was a super short trip but was totally worth it.
We made the most of the approximately 20 hours we were in Philly, as we:
+ Had lunch, sweet treats, coffee, and tea at Miel Patisserie
+ Walked around downtown
+ Enjoyed wine hour at our hotel (Hotel Palomar)
· Ate dinner at The Dandelion
· Attended the Sigur Rós performance
· Enjoyed a fun stroll around the city at night
And – of course – Sigur Rós’ performance was incredible. We even got signed merch in our VIP goodie bags!
