When my twin sister asked me where I wanted to go for my bachelorette party, I fairly quickly threw the Naples, FL idea out there.
If you’ve read many of my blog posts, you probably already know I love the Naples area. I’ve even written an article about my love for Corkscrew Swamp before, which you can read here.
Naples is a perfect getaway destination for someone like myself. I love the fact that I can take off on a swamp hike, catch sunset at the beach, and then head to an amazing restaurant for dinner. So, I was super excited to experience all of the above with my best friends in tow.
Our first morning in Naples, we woke up and ate breakfast at the house we rented for the long weekend. Tea, coffee, and mimosas were enjoyed while we got dressed for our swamp hike.
When we got to Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, I could hardly contain my excitement. I had been so worried we weren’t going to be able to go there because of the damage from Irma. Thankfully, staff and volunteers were able to take care of some of the debris and open their one-mile loop a week prior. I really felt so lucky that the timing of it all worked in our favor.
It was so wild to see some of the damage from Irma. A number of huge trees that once stood tall and strong were broken and now part of the swamp floor.
Despite there being some damage from the storm, the sanctuary was beautiful and peaceful. Wildflowers, water lilies, and bromeliads were in bloom. We even saw some wildlife out and about, including raccoons, a water snake, a heron, a green anole, and the largest hawk I’ve ever seen.
The swamp hike was pretty much the ideal activity to start our first day in Naples. Only Lyd, my twin sister, had been there before, so it was really cool to share the experience with my best ladies. It was a really special hike I’ll never forget. We even wore our matching Breaking Bad-themed shirts during the hike, which was awesome. (I love Breaking Bad, so my friends made shirts and decorated the house with related accessories for my bachelorette weekend.)
Have you ever been to Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples? If you have, I’d love to hear feedback about your experience. Please feel free to comment below or email me at emilykeenphotography@gmail.com.
It looks like a beautiful place! I’ll have to add this to my list.

It really was SO fun! And yes! I have an identical twin sister. (We don’t look THAT much alike anymore though, in my opinion.) haha! When we were kids, we looked a lot alike, however. 😀
