Have you ever visited a place and instantly knew that it would be a spot you’d return to time and time again? That’s how I felt when I walked into IÐA Zimsen. The establishment is part book store, quirky gift shop, and cozy café. I imagine that if I lived in Reykjavík, I’d spend a good deal of time reading and writing from a table within the warm café while drinking espresso (or hot chocolate!) and snacking on chocolate croissants and savory sandwiches.
From illy espresso to Teapigs tea to decadent hot chocolate, this café has it all. Oh, and they also have some alcoholic libations for those interested in some beer.
IÐA Zimsen’s location is also super convenient, which is another reason it’s one of my go-to spots in Reykjavík. When I’m in town, I stay at Black Pearl Apartments, which is only a few steps from the café.
As mentioned above, this lovely café has a book section to peruse. Thanks to IÐA Zimsen, I discovered one of my favorite authors – Yrsa Sigurðardóttir. I bought one of her books there and have since become fully addicted to her writing. I make sure to buy a new book by an Icelandic author each time I return to Reykjavík — one of my favorite traditions!

If you’re ever in Reykjavík, make sure you stop in at IÐA Zimsen. It’s a fantastic place to grab a warm beverage and an even better spot to spend some time reading, writing, or conversing with a friend while enjoying tasty drinks and treats.
